A bustling metropolis, London might not spring to mind when you think of pretty places. But there are plenty of beautiful areas to go for a wander in this fabulous city.
Here are some of my favorite pretty places in London.
A wonderful place to go for a stroll when the weather is decent, Regent’s Canal has it all! Rusty colorful houseboats, paddling ducks, droopy willow trees and even cafes and bars to watch the world go by! If you don’t feel like walking you can also ride a bicycle along the towpath or even take a boat tour.
London is filled with remnants of a time gone by. An example of these anachronisms are cute mews houses that lurk in hidden corners of the city. These houses used to be the garages for carriages and horse stables back in the day. Now they are little homes on small streets and courtyards, many with flowers and plants adorning their facades.
As well as the charming mews, London also has plenty of neighborhoods with pastel homes, flowery front gardens and other lovely details. Take a stroll and see!
London has some of the most awesome parks of any city! Most beautiful in spring and summer, the parks come alive with flowers and people going for a stroll in the sunshine. Regent’s Park is one of my favorites, the ornate fountains and urns surrounded by blossoms. The Kyoto Gardens in Holland Park are another favorite. But Bishops Park in the west of the city offers a fantastic mansion or two! One is pink!
Are you a fan of boats? I am! If there is an opportunity to hop on a ferry for some sightseeing you can bet I’ll take it. I love taking the ferry from Tate Modern to Tate Britain, or just a cruise up the Thames. But a ride to Greenwich is a special delight. Greenwich is a lovely area with beautiful architecture and a fabulous old sailing ship. Take a walk up to the historic observatory and stand at “Greenwich Mean Time.” What fun! Then walk through the tunnel under the Thames, how cool is that?
