Los Diamantes

Do you like fish? Then make your way to one of the delicious locations of Los Diamantes in Granada. Belly up to the bar and order a caña, and you’re likely to get a plate of fried fish on the side. It might be boquerones (fried anchovies), berenjenas (fried eggplant with honey sauce) or simply “pescaito frito” (a mix of fried seafood). In any case it will be tasty! Los Diamantes has three bars in the center of Granada to choose from. My favorite is the cozy Calle Navas location, but the Plaza Nueva location can be fun at lunch time.

Calle Navas 28
Calle Rosario 12
Plaza Nueva 13

Bar Casa Julio

Another Granada bar with scrumptious seafood tapas is the tiny Bar Julio. Order a drink and stand at the bar or in the small alley and enjoy a plate of boquerones and olives, gambas fritas or pescaito frito. This little bar has friendly staff and is a fun place to start your evening.

Calle Hermosa 3

Bodegas Castañeda

Bodegas Castañeda is a Granada classic. Always packed with tourists and locals, this historic bodega has their own house made vermut and other spirits. The staff is always hustling but often cracking jokes as well. Squeeze up to the bar and start a chat with your neighbor.

Calle Almireceros 1

El Delirio

Craving something a bit different? Check out El Delirio in the Realejo neighborhood. I can’t say this is the most authentic Mexican restaurant, but the flavors are good and the tapas are generous. If the free tapas aren’t enough to fill you up, go for an order of nachos to share.

Calle Varela 11

Bar La Trastienda

This sweet bar is somewhat hidden behind a storefront. The grocery store has been in operation since 1836 and serves wines, beers, vermut and even gin & tonics in their cozy space behind the front counter. Tapas are traditional Spanish delights like cheese, olives and ham.

Plaza de Cuchilleros 11

Bar Poë

A favorite with students and expats in Granada, Poë is a friendly neighborhood bar with an international flair. The owners are British and Angolan, and the tapas are hearty and flavorful. You can choose which free tapa you prefer, from a Brazilian bean stew to a pork and pineapple skewer.

Calle Verónica de la Magdalena 40

Omkalsum (Omka-Kool)

Around the corner from Bar Poë, you’ll find Omkalsum. Named after the famous Egyptian singer, this cafe is a favorite with Erasmus students. The food is tasty middle eastern and the vibe is cozy. Sit at the bar or around low tables in the back and dine on tapas like hummus, couscous, papas yunnani (spicy potatoes), meatballs and felafel. A good place with several vegetarian options.

Calle Jardines 17

Restaurante Páprika

Another good option for vegetarians is this cafe housed within one of the medieval city gates. Restaurante Páprika is a vegan cafe and an excellent choice for dinner or just tapas and drinks.

Cuesta de Abarqueros 3

Of course there are many more places to tapear in Granada. What are your favorite Granada tapas bars?
