Garden Designer Piet Oudolf
Piet Oudolf is a landscape designer extraordinaire. He is well-known as the mastermind behind the gardens of New York City’s High Line and Battery Park as well as Chicago’s Millennium Park.
Piet Oudolf Designs Artistic Natural Gardens
Piet Oudolf is famous for his use of perennial plants and grasses and for the artistic way he combines colors and shapes within his gardens. His style of planting appeals to me personally as they look wild and rough but still very beautiful and pleasing to the senses. They also look gorgeous any time of year as the season change.
Recently a new documentary has been produced which shows the viewer an intimate look at how Mr. Oudolf conceives of his designs. The film takes us to some of his famous public gardens as well as his private gardens. We also see his process of sketching and designing and get a glimpse of his inspirations that come from nature herself. The documentary is called Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf and is by Thomas Piper. You can catch it at film festivals around the globe. Watch the trailer below.

On his website he shows beautiful photos from the gardens he has designed, both public and private. But my favorite part of the site is titled “Inspirations” and shows snaps from his Instagram account.
“The idea is not to copy nature, but to
give a feeling of nature.” – Piet Oudolf
